Mercury’s Rising….. No, No it’s not.

And the Award for Best Record Store Owner goes to……….

News:  Interesting couple of weeks with both the Man Booker Prize and Mercury Music Prize nominations being announced. Pretty Impressed with the Man Booker Long list, we have a few of the titles in store, ‘Mars Room’ by Rachel Kushner has been really popular and I was made up to see a graphic novel nominated for the first time ever in the shape of the beautiful ‘Sabrina’ by Nick Drnaso, it’s flown out and is now out of stock at the publishers! We’ll let you know as soon as we have it back in.

Now, don’t get me started on the Mercury’s. We’ve taken great interest in this award for years, some of our favourite albums have come out of it, PJ Harvey’s ‘Stories from the City’ and Badly Drawn Boys debut ‘Hour of the Bewilderbeast’ to name a few.

This list leaves a lot to be desired for me, far too safe… Noel Gallagher?! FFS. Now, there is nothing wrong with Noel and his High Flying Birds but I’m not convinced they belong in the Mercury. Nadine Shah and Sons of Kemet are well worth a listen.

Pro-Ject Juke Box  E has been grabbing the attention and if you’ve heard it you’ll know what I’m talking about. It’s the Sh*t!

  • The Second Sex – Simone De Beauvoir

We’ve also got Mars by 1980 – The Story of Electronic Music by David Stubbs.  It’s had some rave reviews, check out the review from Louder Than War here. Essential reading I’d say.
